It is very recommended to set up a separate user account if there are multiple users are constantly having an access to the Windows computer. Once every user has its own user account, he or she can customize own account. They are able to customize desktop wallpapers and different themes. Also, it is better for security. Then, a user can put a password in the account. It makes it more difficult for the other users accessing the account of personal data and files. While you are booting, you will be asked to choose a user when you login. This normally happens when multiple accounts are on the computer. If the user account has one set up, then the password will be required. Although you are just the only user of the computer, you are still asked to enter the password. Obviously, this is a good thing for security purpose. But if the other accounts are rarely used, and you are just the only user who regularly uses the computer, it can be a hassle to constantly enter the password. Everytime you open the computer, it will ask for the password.
Be thankful to Windows
As a user of the Windows Operating System, you have to be thankful for the built-in ability of an autologon feature. It allows the user to directly login without a need of typing the password. As expected, the choices are hidden away. This is intentional as it stops general users to bypass own password too easily. In fact, it reduces safety. Once it is being accessed, it is very easy to set up and modify. There are 3 different ways in enabling the Windows auto-login function. All the methods will work on Windows Vista, XP, 7 Ultimate, 7, 8.x and 10. A user need to be aware when enabling the auto-login feature, it makes the computer more convenient. However, this feature will let anyone turn on the computer and easily access personal files or data. Thus, it is less safe compared to manual logging in.
The Sysinternals Autologin
If you want a simple and small tool allowing a quick enable and disable Windows auto-login feature, then the Sysinternal autologin will do the work for you. It is a very small portable executable with the only 135KB in size. With the use of autologin, it is quite self-explanatory when launching it. Just enter the username right on the login account ad the password. Default is the primary user. For the domain box, you don’t have to worry as it is optional. Also, you don’t have to worry about changing it, just press “Enable” button. Simply press the “Disable” button if you want to disable the auto login. There is no need to edit or modify any values in the box.
